Thesis (Main Claim)

Thesis: Even though there is an outcry for more media coverage on the violence in the inner-city of Chicago, there are others that believe it will do more harm than good.

Summary of the Article: Harris Ready to Tackle a Far Bigger Problem; Want to Help stop inner-city violence that’s claiming Children.

Tommie Harris, Pro Bowl defensive tackle of the Chicago Bears, tries to use his status NFL star to raise awareness about the violence in the inner-city and the innocent children that get caught in the crossfire. He started to really get involved after seeing on the news about another innocent kid getting killed in a gang dispute. Since then, he has started to voice his input into helping curb the violence in the inner-city. Tommie Harris and his teammate Israel Idonije have talked about renovating an old skating rink in the Englewood community so the kids can have some where to go after school. He feels that athletes should make use of their status and try to make a difference in the community rather than making millions of dollars and newspaper headlines.

Primary and secondary sources

Why does the violence in the inner-city neighborhoods goes unreported by the media?

My primary sources are few but they have enpugh information for me. I've posted one of my sources on my blog if you want to take a look at it. I should have the other one posted up some time this week. These sources are going to be my stat/fact sheet.

But i think the bulk of this paper is going to hinge on secondary sources. My mom works as a principal at an alternative school and she will share with me some of thier stories and experiences with me to help me with my paper.

What i learned

I learned from my research that i have alot of work ahead of me if I want to write about this paper. With the limited amount of resourses around surrounding this subject, it is making this a little difficult than it should be. But i am not going to give up. I might have to use personal accounts as my sources until i find an article or source that fits topic perfectly. But it should come together in due time. If you have any suggestions that will help me out in my search for sources, then i will love for you to share it.
